Hello everyone, welcome back to the Mini Foodie! Today we are going to talk about the seafood restaurant Seabird located on Bainbridge Island which is 35 minutes ferry ride from Seattle.
Bainbridge Island is known for its diverse community, historical heritage and beautiful views. But after the meal we had, I think it should also be famous for their delicious food. The dishes I had at the seafood restaurant Seabird were amazing.
I love fresh bread and fun compound butters, and their Seaweed Butter with Focaccia Bread didn't disappoint. The seaweed butter was good and with a strong flavour of fresh seaweed. It wasn't just like Nori, but it had a real ocean taste. The focaccia bread also had some seaweed in the crust which was nice. The bread also had a crunch on the outside but it was still soft on the inside, but most importantly it went perfect with the seaweed butter! mmm
Then I shared a dozen Oysters with my parents. My brother doesn't eat oysters so more for me. So, these oysters were like little bites of the ocean super briney and fresh, like you just picked them up from the beach. But then, when you add the Watermelon Granita and mignonette, it’s like a flavor party in your mouth! The Watermelon Granita is cold and sweet, which makes the oysters even more refreshing, and the mignonette adds this extra zesty kick. Together, they make the oysters taste so amazing, like a perfect mix of salty, sweet, and tangy. I could have easily eaten a whole dozen of these - and I remember that my dad was happy because they were Happy Hour prices at $2 an oyster. Next time we will have two dozen.
The food is all more family style and so they don't have big main courses. Instead we had the Dungeness Crab Toast after the oysters and it was was seriously to die for! The Dungeness crab was so fresh, like it was just caught that morning, and there was a big, generous pile of it on the toast. The crab was mixed with Beecher’s cheddar cheese, which made it extra creamy and delicious. It was served on homemade sourdough that was amazing because it was so fluffy and light. I don't usually think about crab and cheese - especially not cheddar, but somehow it didn’t overpower the crab. Instead it balanced everything out perfectly. Every bite was a mix of rich, cheesy crabby goodness with that soft, airy bread, and I couldn’t get enough of it!
We also had the Manila Clams, and these were just like little treasures from the sea, cooked to perfection! The clams were tender and juicy, and the broth they were in was packed with so much flavor. I think it was a corn curry broth and it was like a crazy magical potion of deliciousness. When I dipped the toasted bread into the broth, it soaked up all that savory goodness, and it was just amazing! The broth had all these cool flavors from the corn, pickled wax peppers, and sea buckthorn, which made everything taste even better. The mix of the clams and the broth was like a perfect harmony of flavors, and I couldn’t stop eating it! I actually wanted to drink the broth at the end.
They didn't have a huge selection of deserts, but we had a Ice Cream and Cookie which was really nice. The ice cream was super creamy and rich, and when you took a bite of it with the warm coconut cookie, it was like magic! The cookie was crispy on the outside and not quite as soft and chewy on the inside as I would have liked, but the flavours were still perfect and it had just the right amount of sweetness to make it a great desert. The chocolate chips in the cookie added little bursts of chocolaty goodness, but I kind of wished there was a bit more coconut flavor to make it even more tropical. Still, the mix of the cold, creamy ice cream with the warm, gooey cookie was just perfect. It was the kind of dessert that makes you want to smile and eat it super slowly so it lasts longer!
Overall, I thought Seabird was amazing and even if you just went there and nowhere else, it would make a trip to Bainbridge worth it. It wasn't a big kids menu, but even for the unadventurous eater, that Crab Toast would be perfection.
And I know I didn't talk about it, but I would also say that the service was really nice. Our waitress was really funny and she took good care of us, so thumbs up.
Overall my rating is: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
