My Super Yummy Food Adventures in Sweden and Denmark!

Hi everyone! 👋 I just got back from the most amazing trip to Sweden and Denmark with my family, and I have to tell you all about the delicious food I ate there. 😋 It was so good and so fresh. There are honestly some things they make better than anyone else and I am going to tell you about them.

Cinnamon Buns - or as they call them Kanelbullar 🍪

So we went to this cool place called Bjorn's in Vellinge. I had the best cinnamon buns ever! I don't really think these are the best in Scandinavia because it's just a chain, but they are still amazing. It's just one of those things they have perfected in Sweden.

They Cinnamon buns are so delicious and flaky on the outside and soft and cinnamony on the inside but what really makes them perfect is the pearl sugar on the top. If you have never had Swedish Cinnamon Buns, you should try to find a place that makes them because they are different and delicious.

Pizza 🍕

I know it's not very scandinavian, but we did go have Pizza one night in Malmo. It was actually pretty average compared to what I can get in the US, but Pizza is always good so I was still happy.

But here are the details, the crust was super crunchy with lots of little puffs and that part was great. The Pizza I had came with prosciutto, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, and cheese. And while the cheese was a bit disappointing the rest was delicious.

My biggest complaint would be about the service which wasn't great. But overall, it's a nice place and it's close to the train station so was very convenient for us.

Fish 🐟

The best meal we had in Malmo was in a food hall where there was an amazing fish place. They had delicious oysters, and I had the fish and chips and it was near perfect.

The fish was battered but not oily and was cooked absolutely perfect. And the fries were so crunchy and delicious, and it all came with this special dill sauce that was amazing with the fish and fries. The dill sauce was called remouladsås.

My father had a fish soup there which he loved. I tasted it and have to admit that it was rich and full of flavor. He asked what I wanted because it had lots of different fish in it. Mussels, Cod, and other yummy bits. I had a bit with Cod which was really nice and flaky. I think it would perfect for a winter meal, but it was nice out so I don't know why my data wanted it.

My mom had Toast Skagen which is shrimp in a sort of mayonnaise sauce on toast. It was so rich and so delicious, but you really couldn't eat much of it. Even the toast had so much butter it was rich. But eating a little bit was delicious.

I would really recommend this place. The food was great. Parents will love it, and even if your kids don't like fish, there are so many options in the food hall.

Candy and a Party 🍬🎉

The next day we went to a friends house and they took us to a candy store. This store had 850 different kinds of candy. Something my parents always tell me is that they have the best candy in Sweden, and they eat more candy than in any other country in the world. It was amazing, and with all that sugar we got back to the house and our friends had a party for us.

They cooked Spagetti Bolognese which isn't very Swedish. But my friends dad was acting like the Swedish Chef with a crazy hat and it was a lot of fun. Sugar and Pasta. Yummmmm.

Smørrebrød 🥪

In Copenhagen, we went to Restaurant Barr for something called Smørrebrød. These are open faced sandwiches that you eat with a fork and knife.

We actually started with something even better: Waffles and Caviar.

We got warm waffles and it comes with creme fraiche, a bunch of herbs and this delicious orange caviar called löjrom. It looks like tobiko that you would get wish sushi, but it's so much better. This was the best thing I ate on the whole trip.

The waffles were soft and chewy, and the sauce with dill and caviar was amazing. I learned that the caviar has a short season, but thankfully they can package it because it was amazing.

I also tried beef tartare Smørrebrød. It was ray, but it tasted just like regular beef to me. It had this crunchy vegetable on top that kind of reminded me of seaweed. Overall I would rate it highly.

But my parents had the shrimp Smørrebrød and that was better. It had shrimp and a sauce that was delicious, and the most perfectly cooked egg ever. It was so amazing, but I wasn't jealous because mine was great.

If you are going to Copenhagen, you should definitely go to Restaurant Barr. It is authentic and perfect and easy for kids to eat, but sophisticated. It was my favorite place. And don't forget to get the waffles.

And there were other things I had on while I was there too. Like taco's 🌮 at a taco stand, pretzels at the airport (we first landed in Germany), waffles 🧇 at the hotel breakfast buffet, and Polse (hot dogs) 🌭 on the street, and chocolates from little shops. mmmm

Overall I would give the food in Scandinavia a 5 out of 5. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

And the people are great so the service feels nice as well. 😊

So if you are going, I hope my recommendations help. Or if there is something you love from that part of the world, tell me in the comments and I will write about next time I go there.

Bye for now
